9th Grade

Hillcrest is proud to offer an accredited 9th grade curriculum whose credits will transfer to any other accredited high school.  Our Freshmen will earn 6.5 credits this year and the descriptions can be found in the course list below:

 

English

  • English I                                                                                                         1 credit

This course is a study of language structure and usage, paragraph development, short story, drama, poetry, the novel, public speaking, and writing skills. 

 

Mathematics

  • Pre-Algebra                                                                                                  1 credit

This course is a study of the basic concepts of mathematics and Algebra. 

  • Algebra I                                                                                                        1 credit

 This course is a study of solving and graphing linear inequalities, systems of linear equations, exponents, quadratic equations, polynomials and factoring, rational equations and functions, radicals, and connections to Geometry. 

  • Students will be placed in a math based on records and a preassessment.

 

Religion

  • Bible I                                                                                                             1 credit 

This course is a study of the Bible books Genesis and Matthew, with a general overview of the Old and New Testaments. 

 

Science

  • Physical Science                                                                                           1 credit 

This course is a study of the natural world.  It introduces concepts needed in physics and chemistry.  It deals with the fundamental particles of which the universe is made, and the interactions between those particles, the objects composed of them (nuclei, atoms, molecules, etc.) and energy.  

 

Social Studies

  • World Geography                                                                                        1 credit

This course is a study of the countries and customs that make up our world. Students will learn the location and an overview of all the countries in the world.

 

Fine Arts

  • Art                                                                                                                  1⁄2 credit 

This course is the study of basic art principles and gives opportunity to develop new skills.

 

Practical Arts

  • Computer Applications                                                                               1⁄2 credit 

This course is the study of the Microsoft Office Suite. It provides a working knowledge of the basic and intermediate skills for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms. 

 

Physical Education

  • Physical Education I                                                                                     1⁄2 credit 

This course is a study of the rules and fundamental skills of team sports.
